President Issoufou wants more infrastructure in Niger

    APA-Niamey (Niger)

President Issoufou Mahamadou mentioned infrastructure development in the country among the list of his government's achievements in 2017, in his New Year address to the nation delivered on Sunday evening.

He cited the commissioning of the Niamey referral hospital, the inauguration of the Gorou Banda thermal power plant, Boulevard Tanimoun and, more recently, the opening of the Dolé de Zinder market

The new infrastructure built include projects commissioned as part of Tahoua’s Independence Day, and laying the foundation stone of the third bridge over the Niger River in Niamey.

The bridge will be named after General Seyni Kountché, the President announced.

For 2018, Issoufou said there will be the inauguration of the Diori Hamani interchange in Niamey, named after the first president of Niger, and several paved roads across the country, as well as a referral hospital in Zinder.

The year 2018 will also be the year for the effective resumption of work on the Kandadji dam, which should be ready by 2020.

It will also see the launching of the work of the photovoltaic power station of Gorou Banda, and the hybrid power station of Agadez.
